Sports and facilites at the Miraflores At the Miraflores Sports Centre you will find tennis courts, lawn bowling and a beautiful swimming pool, complete with children's pool and cascading waterfall. Our carefully designed resort has a total of 20 swimming pools in all shapes and sizes, so no matter where you are at Miraflores, you can always have a splash. For those of you who enjoy Golf, our on-site 18 hole-par 72- Miraflores Golf Club and Golfing Academy is perfect, and you will find another eight golf courses within a 20 km radius from Miraflores. Our lawn bowls club is also highly popular, with its' own annual tournament. There is a broad selection of other sports activities available to you, including water sports, skiing, horse riding, go-karting and more. Beaches Between Marbella and Fuengirola there are many miles of sandy beaches. Many of these have sun beds and parasols for hire and a 'chiringuito' nearby which provide snacks or 'tapas' and freshly caught fish from the Mediterranean. Aquaparks For a fun day out there are 2 Aquaparks. Mijas locally and Torremolinos approximately 30 minutes drive. Jet Ski These are both available locally at the ports of Cabopino, Fuengirola and Marbella. Windsurfing The most fantastic waves in Europe are to be found in the windsurfing paradise of Tarifa only an hours drive away. Sailing Most of the marinas have yacht clubs and here you will be able to hire boats and equipment. Skiing in the Sierra Nevada The ski resort of Sol y Nieve is located in the Sierra Nevada mountain range near Granada, just 2 hours drive from Miraflores, and is the most southerly ski resort in Europe. Being so far south, many skiers are pleasantly surprised to find that the air temperature is usually warmer than other resorts. To supplement the natural snow, snow cannons are often used, enabling the resort to stay open. The season is December to April. The Sierra Nevada ski resort has numerous runs of varying difficulties to satisfy all skiing desires and there are also large areas for snow boarding. You will also be able to take a 'sled-ride' pulled by Huskies or skate on the ice rink. Other sports available at the Miraflores Horse Riding Within the locality there are stables and farms who provide horses for hire and specialise in riding lessons and trekking. Go Karting There are racetracks in Mijas and Marbella. Walking With over 300 days of sunshine a year and the most amazing variety of scenery, the surrounding areas are a paradise for those who prefer to walk. Tracks, paths and trails are available in the most secluded and unspoiled of landscapes. Horse Racing The Hipodromo Costa del Sol is only 10 minutes from Miraflores and offers an all year round programme. In the summer months the meetings are held late in the evening due to the heat. Mijas Costas, Costa del Sol, Spain Just as Mijas village is serenity, tradition and culture, so Mijas Costa equals that magic combination of sun, sand and water sports. The beaches at La Cala have been awarded the "Blue Flag" as among the best in the province and are geared to provide action: jet skis, water skiing and parasending are all on the go. Be sure to check out the chiringuito charm here too, where you can sample a variety of Spanish seafood eaten with the favourite holiday drink, tinto verano: ordinary red wine topped up with casera (lemonade). The Mijas municipality covers an impressive 148 sq km and includes two major urbanisations, Sitio de Calahonda and Riviera del Sol. The former is informally known as the English village in Spain and the place to come for karaoke, second hand shops, British doctors and dentists, Indian restaurants, imported foods and, naturally enough, a plentiful choice of pubs. The nearby Riviera del Sol is similarly inviting and popular among foreigners, particularly the large commercial centre with its bar, telephone booths and grocery store combined. The sports centre is also well equipped and includes an 18 hole golf course and thriving tennis club. The many complexes in Mijas Costa are home to many of the areas ex-patriot population, composed mainly of British, Germans and Scandinavians. The area is marked by lots of pretty coves and beaches with housing complexes (urbanizations) behind. Most of the complexes are carefully designed to incorporate Spanish influence and care has been taken not to produce concrete monstrosities, but extensive building development means that it looks likely that many of the Urbanizations will soon join to form town of their own. How to find us: From Malaga Airport: From the airport, turn right onto the main coastal highway (CN340) following the directions for Cádiz. After approx. 3 kms turn right onto the E15/N340 signposted Algeciras/Benalmádena, bypassing Torremolinos, Benalmádena, and Fuengirola. Approximately 12 kms past Fuengirola (KM 199) you will see the "Miraflores" entrance on your right hand side, just after the pedestrian bridge. The Reception is located on the main slip road just inside the entrance and is well signposted.
